| Learn to Relax provided a well-being
event for the staff of Sheffield Hallam University. This popular event has been running for several years, and the
extract below shows
how it was reported in the university's own newsletter: |
|
| LITS staff were treated and pampered for
three weeks when the LITS Wellbeing Event
kicked off on 19 June, with a range of
relaxing activities to help everyone take a
break from their hectic schedules. The three
week-long event included a range of holistic
sessions, from Reiki and Reflexology to
Indian Head Massage and Yoga. Fresh fruit
was delivered every week throughout the
event, and proved to be very popular –
especially the cherries! |
| Staff wellbeing was also on offer in the form of a huge charity raffle
featuring some great prizes, ranging from cookery books and
makeovers to an overnight stay at the Hilton Sheffield. Other prizes
included a photo-shoot, cinema tickets and meals for two. The
raffle raised £237, which was donated to the Sheffield Children’s
Hospital. |
| Beverley Radley, of Learn to Relax, provided the relaxation
sessions, along with her colleagues. She said: |
" What a great event! For three years now we have been coming to
Hallam to provide Wellbeing events and each year more things
have been added. We always enjoy seeing familiar faces and love
the way word spreads and new people try things. This year the Indian head massage was really popular and many
people tried Reiki for the first time. From our point of view, seeing
people so relaxed and then having to tell them their time is up
always seems a little cruel! " |
"We introduced ‘Fun massage’ this year, which enables staff to
practice a short but relaxing massage on a colleague. It is great for
team building and it’s amazing how a five minute session can make
all the difference to back and neck tension – and the laughter helps
too! Thanks to all who took part – we really enjoy coming in to
work with you. See you all next time. " |
| So what did everyone think of the overall event? |
| June G, based at City Campus, said: |
"I found the guided visualisation session very relaxing – which was
much-needed at a time when the Adsetts [our office] was being taken to
pieces around us! I also enjoyed the quantum touch session, and
felt relaxed and refreshed for the next few days – it was a glimpse
of what can be achieved by taking time out and slowing down." |
| Shirley C said: |
"I found the stressless relaxation session
particularly helpful and regularly use one of the techniques that we
were taught." |
| Lisa N said: |
"This was my first experience of the LITS
Wellbeing Event and I think it was absolutely brilliant. My reflexology
was great and I had a bit of sole reading thrown in and I learned a
lot about myself. And to top it off I won a really good prize of a gym
membership! Can’t wait until next year!" |

Lindsay F said: |
"I really enjoyed the indian head massage – I
didn’t know what to expect beforehand and was pleasantly
surprised. I’d definitely recommend it! I’m now investigating other
alternative therapies in light of the Wellbeing event."
